Day 18

I got good progress yesterday by making it not only to 44k, but I reworked the ending of the story so it’s more satisfying.

Today, I woke up with a severe migraine though, and my gag reflex was being active.  Right now, I’m just waiting for it to kick in and hoping for the best.  I hope to get to 45k or more though once the pain goes away.

Day 16

I only made 1k last night, but I’m ok with that, because I came up with a pretty cute epilogue.  I can only assume it’s because I wasn’t concentrating on making a lot of words and took a bit of a break.  I didn’t shake at all today, so I shifted my goal back down, and if I pass it and still have more story, I’ll raise it again.  I like winning.

Also, if there’s a discount on Scrivener, I’d like to host a raffle or some sort of giveaway for it on my new site, and that involves winning.

Even if there isn’t a discount on Scrivener, I still want to give away one of my prizes, simply because not everyone wins, and it would be cool to help out someone who didn’t do as well as they hoped.

Anyway, my own writing goals are a shameful minimum of 1k (party’s over, after all), then a good goal is 2k.  3k is serious bragging rights.  I get myself some ebooks at 4k.

Day Twelve

Oops, nearly forgot to post here!  Yesterday was a mess– barely a thousand words written.  I was so tired that I wanted to just make that much before I went to bed, and I did manage, but at the last minute.

Today, I’m going to try to make up for lost time, since there are a lot of word wars on Sundays in the Camp NaNoWriMo chat room.  So far, I’ve passed yesterday’s count, and I hope to make 3k and get back on track, even if it’s a bit painful writing so much.  I really don’t want to lose my stride, not when I’m having a lot of fun, even on the bad writing day I had yesterday.

I enjoy my story so much, and it’s going to need a lot of cleanup because it’s a mess, but it’s incredibly fun to write and plot, and my friends are demanding samples left and right.  I feel really good about this story, even though it was a last-minute choice and I thought I would hate it because its genre.

I want to write more about Mac and his loved ones, and I want the story to go on forever.

This is the story that I would want to read, more than anything else I’ve written by a long shot!

Day 11

Today is Camp NaNoWriMo’s donation drive (called Camp Search Party).  Unfortunately, I can’t afford to donate– but I would like to take this opportunity to ask that if anyone reading this has extra cash they don’t need, and would like to help an organization that encourages writers, please read up on the Office of Letters and Light and their NaNoWriMo and Camp NaNoWriMo programs.

On the topic of my own writing, I’m rather proud– last night, I managed 1k words within a half hour in order to fulfil my daily goal.  It was surprisingly easy, once I realized the time, to get writing.  Sometimes I just need a kick in the pants!  Today, I hope to make 2,500 words minimum, and make some headway on that pesky middle portion of my book, where my main character falls for the title character.  I’m a little sad that I’ve run out of scenes that involve the poly relationship group, but that was bound to happen, given that the poly relationship breaks up.

Sorry, I’m rambling.  I got maybe four hours of sleep last night.  Hopefully I can finish my words early today and take a nice nap, or at least curl up with a book about writing.  I bruised my ankle biking in the rain to get these reference books, so I really should read them.

Day Ten

I’m halfway done as of yesterday.  Most of the writing I’m finding myself doing is tightening things up– fixing plot holes and trying to restrain my melodramatics.  I’m falling more and more in love with my characters (I’ve always viewed this as a danger sign until now), and one of my main protags became an antagonist because of that.  Still, I’m pleased with my progress and I’m happy about these new developments.

I’m a bit behind where I want to be, but as long as I continue to beat the goal the site lists as minimum per day to make goal, I’m just going to be pleased with that.  I need to remember that although it would make me very proud to finish with a 3k a day average, it is not realistic, and burnout is not an option because it takes a last minute rush to recover from.

I’m very glad I did so many 3k days though– I feel like I can take my time doing the rest of my novel with less stress because of my huge buffer.

Today’s goal: find new ways to stress and strain my main character, discover how to distance him from his love back home, and lure him into my antagonist’s trap– also, set a timer for the amount of time I allow myself to play Minecraft.  For the past two days, a “one hour reward for making good progress” turned into “Oops, it’s three in the morning.”  That is a problem.

Day Nine

I only made half of my intended goal yesterday.  My brain just didn’t want to work, so I gave it a break.  Today, I’m going to read over what I have and hope that helps me out of this rut without digging it deeper.  I refuse to lose a second session of Camp NaNoWriMo, especially when I’ve been doing so well thus far.

It might not hurt if I lower my daily goal, either.  Three thousand words per day is a lot, and I’m already quite ahead.  I’ll go down to two thousand for now, and see if that helps.  If not, I’ll see if I can make up for lost time.  Regardless of what I’m doing, I must keep pushing forward.  I’m enjoying this novel too much to give up on it!

On another note, I think excerpts from my novel have lit a fire under a friend’s rear end.  He’s suddenly sending me old RP logs, new drabble fic, and talking about writing with me a lot more than before.  I’m so happy to see this side of him, and I hope he keeps going!  He’s really skillful with his descriptions.

Anyway, now that this writing warm-up is done, I’m going to go ahead and link my new site again ( and get back to work!

Do any of you, dear readers, want to see a few excerpts?  It’s killing me not to post them publicly!

Day Eight

Things are getting a little difficult.  Thankfully, I have my ending picked out in detail, and I know the story, at least.  The problem today lies in the fact that I really like one of the characters, and having my MC fall out of love with him is going to be difficult.  I did get some good tips from a friend, so that’s proving helpful in the outlining stages.  I need to add more conflict and tension, as well, but I feel like I’m getting melodramatic at some points.

Thankfully, I have a massive buffer if I falter, but I don’t plan to falter– not yet.  I’m doing too well!
