NaNoWriMo 2014

A winner is me!  I actually one several days ago– the 20th, but decided that my brain seriously needed a chance to settle down and re-solidify.

In December, I plan to write more, since the story isn’t finished.

Never Trust a Thieving Witch

Slam! Slam! The woman pounded the second nail into the door frame. Inside, unable to see her through the closed door, a fat and fearful merchant cowered, his family holed into their rooms, gathering wealth.

Around the corner, guards ran toward the woman, who looked up in shock from under her hood, then hurried off, her loose smock blown against her thin body by the wind of her forward momentum. Her bare feet slapped against the hard packed earthen road.

Her hood flew back, releasing a long, black braid into the wind. Her brown skin was bleached by the full moon’s light, and her dark eyes were hidden by the shadows from her bangs. Read the rest of this entry »

WHOA I’m halfway there!

Yep, I hit 25k last night.  Now I just need to get my ass in gear and get writing even more.  I’m having a hard time concentrating on anything today, though– even fun stuff.  Not sure what to do about it, but I’m going to keep positive and try to keep my mind at least somewhat on my project, so that even if I don’t get kicked in the pants, I don’t end up super absorbed into a different thing entirely and forget to write, like I almost did last night.

NaNoWriMo 2014: End of Week One

So far so good!  I’m ahead of the goal for the first week, and incredibly proud of myself.  My plot is coming along nicely, my characters are showing personality, and I have the pacing going decent enough that I can fix problems in editing.  I’ve learned a lot about my characters as well.  Sery is very promiscuous, and always gets her brothers a souvenir from wherever she’s sent.  Kainic is proving increasingly observant, but does endanger his life sometimes for the sake of learning new things.  Finally, Caitelle is a lesbian who has had a couple partners in the past, but never a man, and she’s heavily closeted on the subject– though her talking in her sleep has outed her to the rest of the party.

I think I’ll post another excerpt after I’m closer to finishing my word count goal for the day; I’m trying for twenty thousand!

Pagian Bounty: Excerpt

Here’s an excerpt, since I’m assuming the likes and new follows mean people want that.  Please enjoy my main character, Sery, as she makes her first appearance.

NaNoWriMo: Dawn of Day Four

I hit 10k words just after midnight last night!  I am stoked!  I’m actually finding it pretty easy to at least make 2k words a day, sometimes three.  I’m trying for some pretty massive buffer this time, because Warlords of Draenor is going live in nine days, and I just know it’ll be a HUGE hit to my productivity.

So far so good though.  I’ve got a great support group formed on f-list, and the story I’m writing is pretty awesome to work on.  I’m debating posting samples here, just to give a teaser.  Thoughts?
